Squid is a product of Lampe_textiles in Tielt, Belgium. Over the last 25 years the company has grown into a textiles enterprise with the help of textiles engineer and founder, Philippe Lampe. They’re lookout for innovative, reliable textile solutions that inspire creativity and are aesthetic and functional. The idea for Squid came about in 2004 when Philippe’s son Thibaut was at university and wasn’t allowed to hang curtains but wanted something to retain privacy without fully blocking the view outside.
Squid is a self-adhesive, transparent fabric that enables light in and to see out but restricts people outside from being able to see in. Helping to enjoy your privacy but still enjoy the view- unlike frosted film, which can block the natural light and stops any ability to see out.
The unique woven texture gives a soft warm look that feels like a natural textile. Suitable for any interior use due to its soft and minimal appearance. Made in 5 colours to match any interior scheme:
- Chalk is a neutral colour that goes well with sleek and simple, ideal for modern interiors.
- Bone suits is an off-white and suits lighter rooms, a good choice for elegant interiors.
- Oak has a neutral appearance and goes well with natural materials, perfect for rustic interiors and helps create a cosy atmosphere.
- The light grey Ash has an industrial feel and looks good in rooms with metal and concrete.
- Rock is the most textured, suiting darker rooms and creates an intimate, peaceful atmosphere
Installation is easy in any size or shape with no need for fixtures or fittings and no visible joins on large surfaces. There are four stages for installation: clean, stick, cut and press firmly. It’s as easy as that (as long as you do it in the right order)! It’s also easily re-positioned if you’re not happy with it first time as installation doesn’t damage your windows. This is useful if you’re moving premises as you can simply take your Squid with you!
Squids surface is also perfect for digital printing. Or it can be plotted and cut out into any design, and can have a communicative or decorative function making it completely customisable. It can be used on skylights, south-facing sliding windows, glass roofs, domes, conservatories, etc. An easy way to breathe new life into homes, offices and public spaces.
As well as just blocking vision Squid keeps a lot of the sun’s heat out so is an ideal solution for windows that are exposed to strong sun exposure even reducing the temperature by at least 3°C. This is because there’s no air gap between Squid and your glass to heat up, and secondly because the fabric reflects some of the sunlight. It can withstand extreme humidity and is breathable, unlike plastic films, so it’s suitable for HR++(+) glass / high-performance glass. The adhesive isn’t effected by UV rays, heat or humidity as well.
So, if you’re looking for a solution to a problem with your window, whether it needs more privacy, it’s too hot or you simply want to change things up. Let us help show you how Squid would be beneficial and fit into your space.
